WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES: There is an increasing need to
enhance the capabilities and competitiveness of institutions for nanoscience research
in EPSCoR state Arkansas. To foster the knowledge and promote
communications with national research communities in nanoscience and nanotechnology, a one-and-a-half day
Nanoscience Workshop will be held in UALR campus (Donaghey Student Center, Meeting Rooms A and B) in May 1-2, 2006,
in conjunction with a nanoscience course at UALR. This workshop is focusing
on the fundamental properties and applications of nanocrystals, nanotubes and
nanowires which are emerging as key nanostructural materials for nanoscience
and nanotechnology. Their unique optical and electronic properties have enabled
them to be used in a wide range of applications including nanoscale electronics,
optics, biological diagnostics, genomics, and proteomics. The workshop will be
a platform for researchers to address fundamental and practical issues of these
materials and to introduce the state of the art in the field to undergraduate
and graduate students, high school teachers, and professionals who are
interested in the subject.
