Hyperlinks in PowerPoint

There are several types of links in PowerPoint. These types are:

  • Link to a Web Page
  • Link to a File
  • Link to Another Slide in the Presentation

For this exercise I would like you to create an additional slide at the end of your photo album (Right-click in the slide pane and select new slide. Right-click on new slide and select Layout. To create a link to a web page:

  1. Highlight the text you wish to turn into a link
  2. Right-click the highlighted text and select hyperlink from the contextual menu

  3. The Insert Hyperlink dialog box will appear. Select Existing File or Web page from the Link to: menu on the left.
  4. Type the address of the website you wish to link to in the address bar at the bottom of the dialog. Make sure to format the link like a web address (http://www.ualr.edu).

To create a link to a file:

  1. Highlight the text you wish to turn into a link
  2. Right-click the highlighted text and select hyperlink from the contextual menu

  3. The Insert Hyperlink dialog box will appear. Select Existing File or Web page from the Link to: menu on the left.
  4. Browse to the file on your computer and press OK

To Create a Link to Another Slide in the Presentation

  1. Highlight the text you wish to turn into a link
  2. Right-click the highlighted text and select hyperlink from the contextual menu
