Displaying Spreadsheet Data in Chart Format

What you'll need for this exercise...

  • Powerpoint Presentation
  • Excel / Spreadsheet Data
  1. Open Powerpoint
  2. Save the presentation to your desktop as chart.ppt
  3. Select a Design Template and Color Scheme
  4. Insert a new slide and select a layout that allows you embed multimedia.
  5. Select the the middle icon on the top row multimedia insert box. You should now see a chart and a datasheet that contains the chart values. By default you will see a vertical bar chart
  6. Enter Data in the Datasheet

To use a different format for the chart

  1. Duplicate the chart slide you just created (copy & paste)
  2. Select the new slide and double click on the chart so that you see a zebra-stripe background around the border
  3. Right-click in the chart area and select chart type. You will have multiple options for different types of charts. Select one and repeat steps 1 and two so that you have three different chart types on slides 1, 2, and 3

Note: By right-clicking on a selected chart you can select chart options where you can tweak presentation options for the chart
