Minor in English

A minor in English requires 18 hours. These hours must include English 3331, 3332, and 12 upper-level hours.

Minor in Creative Writing

A minor in creative writing requires 18 hours selected from the creative writing course list.

Minor in Linguistics

A minor in linguistics requires 21 hours selected from the following:

  1. English 3313 (required)
  2. English electives: at least three upper-level linguistics courses chosen from English 3311, 3312, 3314, and 4370 or 4100/4200 when linguistic topics. (These independent study and topics courses may be repeated one time if the topic changes but may not comprise more than six of the 21 minor hours)
  3. Foreign language electives. Knowledge of a foreign language is strongly recommended for the linguistics minor, and up to six foreign language credits may be applied to the linguistics minor
  4. Other electives: up to three relevant elective courses chosen from Anthropology 4316; Audiology and Speech Pathology 3360, 4366; Philosophy 3330; Psychology 2310, 2341, 2440; and Sociology 2181, 2381. (Please refer to the course description or check with the home department for any prerequisites to particular courses in this list.)

Minor in Film

The English Department participates in an interdisciplinary minor in film. Minors must take RTVF 2306 Introduction to Motion Pictures, and 15 hours of film courses in at least two disciplines. Interested students should consult the program administrator in the radio, TV, and film program in the School of Mass Communication.
