Bowen Summer Public Interest Fellowship

The Bowen Summer Public Interest Fellowship will be granted to students who intend to dedicate 10 weeks during the summer semester to working full-time in the public sector.  Applicants are responsible for securing their own public service experience with a reputable public interest employer.  Preference will be given to applicants who are dedicating their time to organizations that are not otherwise able to compensate them.

In addition to these fellowships, there is a fellowship available for students who wish to work in an Arkansas rural community. Applicants are responsible for securing their own public service experience with a reputable public interest employer.  Preference will be given to applicants who are dedicating their time to organizations that are not otherwise able to compensate them. This fellowship has been funded by Wilson & Associates.

Each selected fellow will receive a $6,000 stipend.

Eligible Applicants: 

1L and 2L students are eligible to participate in the program and will be given preference.

3L students who do not intend to take the July bar exam may also apply.

Application Deadline:  March 3, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.

General Instructions:  Please submit your application via HIRE Bowen by the deadline mentioned above.  Your application packet must include:

  1. A completed application (available on HIRE Bowen under the listing);
  2. Resume;
  3. Unofficial law school transcript;
  4. Personal statement not to exceed 500 words; and
  5. Proof of an offer from a reputable public interest employer (e.g., offer letter or email with contact information for the employer).

Your participation in this fellowship cannot be combined with an externship or any other course requirement.  You are not allowed to receive academic credit for any work you perform pursuant to this experience.

At the end of the 10-week period, you will be required to submit a short essay regarding the fellowship and your work pursuant thereto.
