“Walk Out on a Work Day” Events
Monday, March 17th
There will be two group walks around campus. The first will begin at 12:15pm and the second will begin at 12:35pm. Groups will discuss heart rate, proper walking form, moderate & vigorous activity levels, and target heart rate zone. The walk will be approximately 15 minutes. Freebies will be given away during the Campus Walks!!
If it rains, we will be in the DSC in front of the bookstore passing out the packets and pedometers.
The program is a 5 week walking program with incentive prizes given away each week. Pedometers will be given out on March 17th. Participants will wear the pedometer for the duration of the 5 week program recording their daily steps along the way. Recording daily steps will begin on March 17th at the link below. There will be an Individual Competition and a Team Competition. Teams may consist of 4 to 15 members. One member from each team should register all team members. Team members will also be included in the individual competition.
All benefits eligible employees are encouraged to participate. You do not have to be a member of Wellness Pays.
It’s true that you can achieve numerous health benefits from walking. You can improve your fitness level, blood pressure, and cholesterol level with 10,000 steps a day. This Step into Spring Incentive program will help you achieve better health by keeping track of what you’re already doing! Using a pedometer, you will record the number of steps you currently take in a day. Then you will set a goal to increase that number to 10,000 steps per day by the end of the program. By adding a few more steps to your day, everyday, you will reach 10,000 per day in no time at all.
As last year, your activity/exercise does not have to be limited to only walking. We will use the website http://walking.about.com/od/measure/a/stepequivalents.htm to convert other activities to steps.

Steps must be entered each Monday at 5pm to be eligible for random weekly drawings. (The weeks of the program will begin on Monday and end on Sunday.) There will be a grace period of entering steps for the previous week until midnight of Wednesday. All seven days of the week can be entered in the system. However, only the six highest days will be used for calculating totals and averages. Program ends April 21st.
To be eligible for the Big Step Drawing, participates must have entered their steps for each week and walked a minimum of 10,000 steps for 6 days during the 5th week.

Over 40 Prizes will be awarded!!! Each week 8 prizes will be given away in a random drawing. Only one weekly prize per participant. Steps must be entered by Monday at 5pm to be eligible for random weekly drawings. (Example: To be eligible for Week 1's drawing, you must enter your week 1 steps by Monday- 5 pm of week 2 )
