University District

Educational Network

The University District Educational Network (UDEN) focuses on increasing educational opportunities and improving educational outcomes for the children growing up in neighborhoods surrounding the UALR campus. Working with community partners to raise academic achievement levels for the students attending schools in the University District is UDEN’s primary goal.

Current UDEN Initiatives:

Central Little Rock Promise Neighborhood Project

The Central Little Rock Promise Neighborhood Project is a joint effort of UALR and five other partners: Little Rock School District, City of Little Rock, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Central Arkansas Library System, and New Futures for Youth. It is modeled after the Harlem Children’s Zone and aims to work with children, families, schools, community organizations, and partners to create a pipeline of programs and services that will provide the support children need to successfully get from cradle through college to career.

Study Circles Project

UDEN has received a technical assistance grant from the Arkansas Out of School Network  (AOSN) Community Innovations Project. AOSN is a statewide group that promotes the expansion and development of after-school programs. This grant will help promote dialogue among community members in the University District and surrounding neighborhoods on how to create the kind of community where all young people have a chance to learn - in and beyond the school day.
