There are two "types" of ACT tests.
The national test is offered several times per year at hundreds of testing centers. National scores can be sent to any university that you might attend. (National test dates are in February, April, June, October, and December. There is usually a national test date in September -- but it is not offered in Arkansas!)
The residual test is offered by some universities for their students only. A RESIDUAL SCORE IS VALID ONLY AT THE CAMPUS WHERE YOU TAKE THE TEST. Click here for more information about Residual testing at UALR.
There are two ways to register for the ACT national test.
1) Register online and pay with a credit card. (Check the test registration deadlines before you try to register! You cannot complete an online application if you are trying to be a standby on a national test day.) You will print out your admission ticket directly from the ACT website if you register online.
2) Use a paper registration packet. The packets are available at UALR Testing Services, and at most colleges, universities, and high schools. Pick up the packet, fill it out, and mail it to ACT with your fee. (Make sure you check the test dates and deadlines -- don't mail the form if you are trying to be a standby.) ACT will mail you an admission ticket if you register with a paper registration form.
NOTE: The following information pertains to the February 9 ACT test only.
If you want to be a STANDBY for the February 9, 2008, ACT test, read and follow these directions. (If you registered for ACT but want to change your test CENTER or test DATE, read the directions at this link.)
If you have missed the late registration deadline and would like to try to come in as a standby, please read the following information.
Pick up a registration packet from a college, university, or high school. The packets are available in the bookshelf outside of Testing Services (Ross Hall 409) any time that Ross Hall is open. (Online registration is NOT an option for standbys.)
Complete the Registration Folder. The packet contains a booklet entitled "Registering for the ACT " that will help you complete the folder. Be sure to read the section on "Standby Testing" on page 5 of the booklet. Don't mail the registration folder if you're trying to be a standby! Instead, bring it with you to the test.
Make sure you have ACCEPTABLE IDENTIFICATION and your FEE ready. Click here for details.
On Saturday, February 9, arrive at Ross Hall no later than 7:30 a.m. Read the signs posted in Ross Hall to find your reporting place. (We sometimes are administering several different tests. Be sure you look for ACT signs!)
There are many ACT testing centers besides UALR. If you live in another town, you may prefer to look for a center that is closer to you. You can find a list of test centers in the registration packet or on the ACT website. ACT scores from national test administrations can be sent to any college or university. (ACT scores from residual administrations are good only at the campus where you test.)
Be sure you have your SEALED REGISTRATION PACKET with your COMPLETED REGISTRATION FOLDER and FEE (cash is not accepted) enclosed. The total due is $69.50 payable to ACT by check, money order, or credit card. (If you want to take the ACT Writing test in addition to the multiple choice test, the total cost for a standby is $84. UALR does NOT require the Writing test for admission to UALR -- but we do administer the test for students who wish to take it.)
Be sure you have acceptable identification.
You may bring a calculator. Check here for information on acceptable calculators.
Bring some sharpened #2 pencils.
Print your name on the standby list at the designated reporting place. Ask the testing staff for help if you have questions.
After all registered examinees are seated, the test supervisor will determine how many standbys can be admitted. She will admit standbys first-come, first-served according to the standby list. Standbys who are not ready (no completed packet, or no acceptable ID, or no acceptable fee, etc.) cannot be admitted.
Standby seating is not guaranteed. No determination can be made until the test day after all registered examinees have been seated. While we make every attempt to seat standbys, there are days when standbys are turned away. Your best bet is to register on time for the ACT test. If you did not register and you want to be a standby, be sure you arrive early with everything you need.
If you want to be a test CENTER change or test DATE change for the February 9, 2008, ACT test, read and follow these directions.
This option applies ONLY if you have registered for ACT and now need to change to a different center or a different test date. If you want to make this change BEFORE the late registration deadline, follow the directions at the ACT website. If you want to make this change AFTER the late registration deadline, continue reading.

If you are admitted, ACT will send you a bill for their fee to change you to another center or another test date. Click here for details.

ACT UALR RESIDUAL PROGRAM (ACT-RESIDUAL)
ACT Residual tests are last-minute tests for students who have missed all the national test dates. Information about national testing is listed above.
The only advantage to taking a Residual is that in some cases you can get your scores faster than if you wait for the next national date. No matter what you might have heard, Residuals test are not easier, or shorter, or anything else other than the only option to students who can't get national scores fast enough for their situation. Residuals cannot be used for practice or any reason other than admission.
At UALR, we usually offer ACT Residual tests during the summer for persons who are trying to enroll in the Fall semester. In some cases, we offer a Residual for enrollment in the Spring semester.
NOTE: Not all students are required to take the ACT test. Check with Admissions if you are unsure about your requirements. International students and students age 25 and older have the option of taking the Accuplacer instead of ACT or SAT. Click here for details.
There are disadvantages to testing on a Residual date.
Scores are not transferable to other institutions. If you take an ACT Residual test at UALR and then decide to attend some other university, your scores will not go with you.
If you decide to re-test, you must wait at least 60 days between Residual tests. If the 60-day time limit is violated, the re-test score will be canceled and no refund will be made. Even if you change from one testing center to another, you must wait 60 days before you can re-take an ACT Residual.
If
you are not 100% certain that you will attend UALR, you should not
take a Residual test. Remember, your scores are not
transferable if you decide to attend some other university.
ACT Residual Registration Procedures
Apply to UALR. If you have not applied for admission, we cannot test you.
Complete a UALR ACT Residual Test Registration Form, which is available in Testing Services. (Don't complete the usual ACT registration packet that is mailed to Iowa.)
Submit the completed form with a $5 deposit to UALR Testing Services, Ross Hall 409. (You can bring it by, or you can mail it to UALR Testing Services, 2801 South University Avenue, Little Rock, AR 72204.) BE SURE TO SUBMIT YOUR FORM AND FEE NO LATER THAN THE DEADLINE.
Testing Services will give or mail to you an admission ticket with details about the test day. One of the details is that you pay the balance of $25 on the test day -- making a total of $30 ($5 deposit plus $25 fee).
Study! Pick up a free sample test in Testing Services, or click here to view it online. Click here for more information.
If you need accommodations for a disability, be sure you mention it when you register for the test. You must have a complete file in the UALR Disability Resource Center for your request to be considered. Click here for more information.

COMPASS is a test that some two-year colleges use instead of ACT or SAT.
UALR does *not* accept COMPASS test scores for admissions or any other purposes.
UALR Testing Services *does* administer COMPASS to students who need scores for other colleges.
If you need to take COMPASS to use at some college besides UALR, you may choose to test at UALR Testing Services. There are 2 steps in setting up a COMPASS appointment at UALR.
First, the college that is requiring you to take COMPASS must contact the national ACT company to confirm your need to test. Your college must contact ACT at 1-800-645-1992. UALR Testing Services cannot perform this step for you -- the college that is requiring you to take COMPASS must take care of it.
After your college has contacted ACT, you will need to register for COMPASS through the national ACT organization. Call them at 1-800-205-6366 for details and procedures. (Remember, you do this AFTER your college has made the intial contact with ACT.)
ACT will give you information on COMPASS fees, test dates, where to report for testing, etc. All COMPASS registration is handled through ACT. UALR Testing Services is not involved with COMPASS registration at any time.

GMAT is administered on computer at Pearson VUE Testing Centers.
There are four ways to register for GMAT. Choose ONE of the following:
1) Log on to www.mba.com and register online with a credit card.
2) Call 1-800-717-GMAT and register with a credit card.
If you don't have a credit card:

4) Pick up a paper registration bulletin at UALR Testing Services. Fill out a GMAT Appointment Scheduling Form and mail it in to Pearson VUE with your payment. (The mailing address is in the registration bulletin.)
GRADUATE RECORD EXAMINATION (GRE)
There are two kinds of GRE tests.
1) The GRE General Test. It is offered on computer year-round at the Prometric Testing Center
You can register online at www.gre.org or by telephone at 1-800-GRE-CALL if you use a credit card.
If you wish to pay by check or money order, you can print out a registration form from the GRE website and mail it in.
If you don't have web access at all, you can pick up a paper registration bulletin from UALR Testing Services. Fill out the form in the bulletin and mail it to GRE with your check or money order.
2) The GRE Subject Tests. These are paper-based tests.
Log on to www.gre.org for test dates and test centers. UALR is not a center, but there are centers in Arkansas.
If you have a credit card, you may register online.
If you don't have web access at all, you can pick up a paper registration bulletin from UALR Testing Services. Fill out the form in the bulletin and mail it to GRE with your check or money order.
IF YOU NEED A COPY OF YOUR GRE SCORES
Official copies can be ordered at 1-888-GRE-SCORE. Colleges and universities typically require official copies from GRE, rather than photocopies from students or from other schools.
GRE typically sends out two types of score reports:
*The report for your graduate program. If you indicate UALR, this score report will go directly to the UALR Graduate School.
*The report for your undergraduate institution. If you finished your bachelor's degree at UALR and you confirmed with GRE that you want your scores sent to your undergraduate institution, a copy will come to UALR Testing Services. We keep these scores on file for five years, then they are destroyed.
Again, remember that if you need a copy of your GRE scores for another college or university, you should contact GRE to request an official copy. Copies of the score reports on file at UALR will not be sent to other institutions.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE ORGANIZATION (IBO)
If you took International Baccalaureate Organization tests in high school, ask the IBO to send official score reports to the Director of UALR Testing Services.

WHAT DO I BRING? |
|
|
WHAT SHOULD I NOT BRING? |
|
|
HOW LONG DOES THE TEST LAST? |
Approximately 75 minutes from the time you sit down at a computer. Allow for a few additional minutes to check your ID and collect your fee. (The actual test has a 60-minute time limit, but it will take you a few minutes to read the preliminary directions on the computer.) WE TEST MANY STUDENTS DURING PEAK PERIODS (around the beginning and end of each semester). You will find the wait for a computer to be much shorter if you avoid the busiest testing times of the year. Remember that the 75 minute time frame counts only your time at the computer, and not any time spent waiting for a computer to become available. |
|
WHEN WILL I KNOW MY SCORE? |
You will see your unofficial score as soon as you complete testing. Official score reports will be sent to you and to the schools of your choice by Harcourt Assessment/Psychological Corporation and not by UALR Testing Services. According to the Candidate Information Bulletin: "You will receive your personal score report two to three weeks from the date that Harcourt Assessment receives your test." |
|
HOW CAN I PREPARE? |
Start with the MAT Candidate Information Bulletin. You can access the online bulletin through this link, or you may obtain a paper copy from UALR Testing Services. We keep the paper copies in the bookshelf in the hallway outside of Testing Services (Ross Hall 409). You may access this bookshelf anytime the building is open, even if our office is closed. An online practice test is available for purchase at WWW.MILLERANALOGIES.COM You may purchase study guides at most bookstores -- but note that the ONLY official study guide that is authorized by the company that makes the test is the one available at WWW.MILLERANALOGIES.COM The UALR Graduate School hosts occasional study sessions. |
|
WHEN CAN I REPEAT THE TEST? |
If you would like to take the MAT again, the standard procedure is to wait until you have received your Retest Admission Ticket in the mail from the Psychological Corporation. If for some reason you do not wish to wait, contact the Director of Testing Services to discuss your options. NOTE: If you want to take the MAT multiple times in one year, there may be a delay in obtaining test materials for you. Contact the Director of Testing Services if you have already taken the MAT repeatedly in the past year (for example, 3 or more times) BEFORE you come in to try to test again. |
|
HOW CAN I REQUEST ACCOMMODATIONS FOR A DISABILITY? |
See the information below. |
If you need accommodations for a documented disability:
Fill out the Accommodations Request Form, which is on page 38 of the 2007-2008 MAT Candidate Information Bulletin. If you don't have a paper bulletin, you can download and print out a request form from this link. See #5 below if you have problems accessing the form via the link.
Make an appointment with the UALR Disability Resource Center. They can help you complete the form, if necessary, and they will write a letter outlining what accommodations are appropriate for you.
Submit the completed Accommodations Request Form and the letter from the DRC to the Director of Testing Services. She will submit a request to Harcourt Assessment/Psychological Corporation, which is the company that makes the Miller Analogies Test.
When your accommodations have been approved, the Director of Testing Services will contact you to set up an appointment for you to test. NOTE: Filling out the paperwork and obtaining approvals can take time. Start early!
If you have problems accessing the Accommodations Request Form from the link, go to www.milleranalogies.com and click on "Candidate Information Booklet." When you get to the Candidate Information Booklet, scroll down to Appendix B, Accommodations Request Form. Print out the form.
