Reading Aloud
Many people understand better if they read out loud. You don't want to read aloud all the time because you can read much faster silently. A really good reader reads whole sentences at a time instead of individual words. However, you can often understand a difficult passage better if you read it aloud with expression.
The following are some fun ways of reading aloud you might want to practice with your team or your class.
1. Take turns reading passages aloud, trying to help the listener understand the passage by using your tone of voice and speed to make ideas clear. If the story has several people talking, read it like a play.
2. Listen to books on tape and notice how the readers help make the texts come alive. Try to develop the same skill. Have your partner tell you what helped him understand or feel the passage and what was confusing or hard to listen to.
3. Read aloud for children. Try to read with expression to keep them interested.
