Welcome to the UALR Staff
Senate web page.
Our plan is to update this page regularly so staff can have
ready access to information on Staff Senate meetings, activities and events.
Our goal is to encourage communication, cooperation and professionalism.
Staff Senate meetings are open to all UALR staff members and we encourage
your attendance at meetings and participation on Staff Senate committees
and in Staff Senate events.
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Staff Senate was
created in 1969, when the UALR University Assembly was restructured. With
the restructuring, the Staff Senate took on the role of advocate and representative
for the Staff.
The
Staff Senate is composed of both classified and non-classified, non-faculty
employees (must be benefits eligible) who are elected each year by their
coworkers. We limit the number of senators from each department in order
to provide broad representation. Senators serve staggered two-year terms.
If you are interested in serving, make it known to those within your department
and Vice Chancellor's area when ballots go out in March or April.
The purpose of the Staff Senate is stated in our Constitution
as follows:
The UALR Staff Senate, as part of the University Assembly,
shall have the authority and right to make recommendations to the chancellor
on matters of general campus-wide concern and the effectiveness of the
University. This responsibility includes, but is not limited to, such
nonacademic areas as:
- Salaries, work schedules and work conditions
- Job evaluations, grievances and appeals
- Fringe benefits and health services
- Safety, traffic and security
- Quality of campus life, continuing education, and professional development
- Service to UALR and community
