Senior Justice Center

SVPE Seminars Scheduled with SCAT

On the 5th, 19th and 26th of November, the Senior Justice Center will be presenting Sexual Violence Prevention Education to members at three senior centers in central Arkansas.  The location for these dates will be announced here shortly

Recently, the local organization, SCAT, had called the Center in hopes that we could present the elderly with information to help them understand why seniors are victimized so often.  The SCAT representative who is organizing this seminar series indicated that she personally knows of instances where seniors in Arkansas have been the target of scams, con-artists and other increasingly familiar crimes.

The seminars are penciled to begin at 10:30a and run about 1 hour.  The topics covered will mostly include Sexual Violence Prevention Education, however the overall topic of why seniors are victimized so frequently will be touched on as well during the scheduled sessions.

It is our goal to schedule additional seminars with SCAT at local senior centers so that the topics covered can be broadened and tailored to each groups’ needs and desires.

Senior Justice awarded US Administration on Aging Contract!

Map of the Arkansas Delta with Highlight

The Senior Justice Center has been awarded a contract with the US Administration on Aging.  This contract partners the Arkansas Department of Human Services - Senior Medicare Fraud Patrol (Arkansas SMP) and the Tri-County Rural Health Network in order to survey the senior citizens living in Lee, St. Francis, Phillips and Monroe.  This 2-year pilot project will utilize focus groups and interviews in order to identify the most desired and appropriate method for distribution of information to rural seniors who may have to overcome poverty and illiteracy.

The Senior Justice Center is in the process of hiring an employee to begin working on this important study.  Updates will be posted regularly so you can follow our progress on this ground-breaking project.

Congratulations to all involved!
