Secondary Teacher Education Programs

College of Education/University of Arkansas at Little Rock

At the start of the twenty-first century, President Bill Clinton projected that American schools and school districts would need more than 2 million qualified teachers over the course of the next decade, and secondary educators are among the most sought-after professionals in the U.S. right now. In Arkansas, schools report current statewide shortages in almost every teaching field, with a particular need for math, science, and Spanish teachers.  In order to help meet this current and growing demand, UALR offers two programs which lead to initial licensure:

(1)    (1)The undergraduate program. This degree program allows a student to major in the subject he/she will teach and to minor in secondary education.

(2)   (2)The master's program. The M.Ed. Initial Licensure Track is designed for highly qualified people who hold the B.A. or the B.S. degree in a major field of study but who were not prepared or certified to teach.  The master's program allows these students to complete both initial teaching requirements and master's degree program requirements at the same time.UALR also offers an advanced master's degree program for licensed teachers.

(3)    (3)The M.Ed. Licensed Teacher Track is an indivialized program designed to help experienced teachers achieve their professional goals.

Programs in the college are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and other appropriate accrediting agencies.
