Doc Yoder's Yardbird Project

These are pictures of the birds in my backyard -- my new obsession. I took most of photographs with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3 digital camera with 10x optical zoom, mostly handheld, but some with a tripod. Most of the pictures are atually taken through my (freshly cleaned) kitchen window. Pictures are manipulated using Apple iPhoto on an iMac Intel Core Duo, with OS X 10.4.10. Photo enhancement is limited mostly to cropping, and increasing sharpness and contrast. I have tried to figure out Apple's iWeb software for this webpage, but I find that for the moment, it's easier just to write html code. For help writing code I use the tutorial at http://www.w3schools.com/default.asp. Enjoy the pix. If you have any tips or suggestions, email me at rpyoder@ualr.edu.

Here is a list of the birds we get in our yard, grouped by frequency of sighting. I'm slowing figuring out that these frequencies are largely seasonal. I made up most of this list based on summer 2007, but the red-breasted nuthatch and the junco both only arrived as fall has come on.

Dove 2
During the summer of 2007 a pair of cardinals hatched a pair of babies in a
Rose o' Sharon just off the back deck, and after they left the nest, the doves colonized the it.
We saw the two eggs in the nest, but alas have not pix. However, I did get the next ones.

The blossooms have appeared in the land,
The time of pruning has come;
The song of the turtledove
Is heard in our land. (Song of Songs 2:12)

In these pictures you can see the head of one of the baby doves
in the nest behind its mother.
