English 3330.02 Approaches to Literature Fall 2006
Week 1 (Aug.31)
Th I will be attending the conference of the North American Society for the Study of Romanticism (NASSR), so there will be no class today. However, in preparation for next week, you should read something on the Literary Canon. I don't much care what you read as long as you read something. You might find something on the internet (just Google "literary canon," for example) or look at a literary encyclopedia or something like Critical Terms for Literary Study edited by Frank Lentricchia and Thomas McLaughlin. Frankly the more diverse the class's reading, the better for our discussion. Be prepared to identify what you read and to ask questions about who gets into the canon and why.
