COOPER SEMINAR FOR FALL 2007
Dr. Vannatta is teaching a Cooper seminar on Hemingway and Faulkner which meets Monday & Wednesday 1:40 to 2:55 pm in Ross Hall 118.
COOPER SEMINAR FOR SPRING 2008
Dr. Paul Yoder will teach a Cooper seminar called Reading Poetry which will meet Monday & Wednesday 12:15 to 1:30 in Stabler Hall 401. Herešs what he has to say about it!
"Many English majors suffer from the shame of 'poetry anxiety disorder' (PAD). When the discussion turns to meter, metonymy, metaphor, alliteration or other issues of poetic interpretation, they become overwhelmed with a sense of anxiety and inadequacy. Well, now there is help. Doc Yoder's 'How to Read a Poem' offers a (relatively) painless step-by-step guide to overcoming PAD. This is not a course in Romantic poetry or Victorian poetry or even in early American poetry, but in the art of poetry reading itself."
UPCOMING COOPER SPEAKERS
We are in the process of lining up a speaker for the fall.
In the spring, Dr. Yoder will bring in a speaker in connection with his Cooper seminar on Reading Poetry. And Dr. Knutson will host a visit by Prof. Richard Dutton, who teaches at Ohio State, in conjunction with her class in English Renaissance Drama. Prof. Dutton has published widely but is best known for his scholarship on the Revels Office (censorship) and his editions of Ben Jonson's works.
