Martha Bixler

Martha Bixler holds Bachelor's degrees from Smith College and the Yale University School of Music and a Master's degree from Brooklyn College.  She has long been active with the American Recorder Society (ARS).  She has been a member of the Board of Directors and twice president of the Society.  She has just completed ten years as editor of the ARS Members' Library Series.

Ms. Bixler is a teacher/performer on recorders, piano, harpsichord, sackbuts, and viola da gamba.  Prominent early music ensembles with which she has performed include the New York Pro Musica Sacra, the Bach Aria Group, and the Berkshire Bach Society.  She currently performs with Spectra Musica, a Renaissance Wind Band.  She has taught at many early music workshops around this country and in Hawaii, Canada, England and Ireland.  She is the editor of a number of arrangements for recorders, and has recorded for Columbia Records and Decca Gold Label.  She is a member of the music faculty at Teachers College, Columbia and Sarah Lawrence College.

Martha Bixler will be in Little Rock for her third workshop on March 5, 6, and 7, 2004.
