What Goes Around Comes Around: Canons and Rondeaux Through the
Centuries
(Saturday, August 30, 2003)
Why did you select "canons" as a theme for the
workshop?:
"Choosing canons as a theme for a one-day workshop presents an exciting
challenge (for ensembles!). With an emphasis on ensemble technique (so
appropriate with the imitative devices of the canon), we will explore a
wonderful variety of music through the ages. We will work on articulation,
breathing, tone, listening skills, style, as we play some well-known and
lesser-known works for recorder ensemble."
Music will be selected from the repertoire at the bottom
of the page.
Master Class with Ms. Kielson
(Friday,
August 29, 7:00-9:00 p.m.)
Ms. Kielson talks about master classes: "A master class is like a public
lesson. There is an audience (players and auditors). Audience
members can really benefit from listening to the performers and leader's
comments. Often, points discussed, relate directly to issues we all work
on, whether technique or style. Participants in the master class do not have to know their pieces
perfectly. Works in progress contribute wonderfully to this setting,
providing a lot to talk about. All levels of experience are
welcome. In addition to solos, people can perform duets, or in
small ensembles."
Ms. Kielson comments about the
