Removing the Barrier of Costs

While counseling, support and substituting healthy behaviors are all that some people need to quit smoking, others may want to supplement these approaches with pharmaceutical aids. We recognize that one of the major barriers to quitting tobacco is the cost of pharmaceutical aids to help with the early stages of withdrawal. We will provide the first month’s supply of the appropriate aids free for any student or employee signing up for our tobacco cessation program.

Nicotine Patches

Nicotine patches work by delivering a measured dose of nicotine through your skin. While these do not require a prescription, they can cost up to $75 PER MONTH. It is important to receive the proper dose and to taper off over time. For program participants, we will determine the proper dose and provide the first month of nicotine patches free.

Buproprion Tablets

Buproprion (the generic form of Zyban™) works by helping to reduce cravings for nicotine, the addictive ingredient in tobacco. It also alleviates withdrawal symptoms and can help prevent excess weight gain and relapse.1 Buproprion does require a prescription and will be available free for the first month for all program participants who sign up through Health Services. The cost of one month supply of Bupropion is normally around $100.
