The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Psychology Department regularly offers an Internship (3369, 3469) in psychology for course credit (three or four credit hours). Prerequisites are junior standing and the consent of instructor. Our catalog description states that the internship: Provides practical experience in a professional urban setting. Students work in a business, government agency, state mental health institution, or similar location giving opportunities to apply their academic background to develop applied skills.

 

Student requirements for completing the internship are:

  1. That the project, or work plan, be defined well in advance of registration deadlines and be acceptable to the student, the faculty supervisor, internship mentor, and the internship coordinator.
  2. A mid-semester report (this may be formal or informal at the discretion of your faculty supervisor).
  3. That there be a final report at the end of the semester (this should be a formal paper of at least 1000 words in length, APA style) submitted to your faculty supervisor.
  4. A letter from the internship mentor describing the progress made by the intern in accomplishing the original objectives submitted to your faculty supervisor.
  5. A written logbook of hours worked submitted to your faculty supervisor.
  6. 3 credits, 100 hours minimum of documented work must be performed.
    4 credits, 120 hours minimum of documented work must be performed.
  7. Internships will be unpaid. Your regular workplace cannot also serve as an internship.
  8. Prerequisite requirements: Junior or Senior status and completed course work appropriate to the project as determined by the faculty supervisor and the internship mentor.
  9. Prerequisite preferences: Overall GPA 3.0, psychology GPA 3.0.
  10. Grades: Evaluation of the intern's work is executed by the faculty supervisor in consultation with the internship mentor.
     

Intern site/intern mentor requirements are:

 

1.      To provide a professional and educational experience.

2.      To provide regular supervision.

3.      To provide mid-semester feedback to the supervising faculty. This may be informal in the form of a phone call or email or formal in the form of the Mid-Term Internship Mentor Feedback Form (MTIMFF) to be provided by the intern or may be downloaded via http://www.ualr.edu/~psycinfo/paper1a.html.

4.      Completion of the End-Term Internship Mentor Feedback Form (ETIMFF) provided by the student or may be downloaded via http://www.ualr.edu/~psycinfo/paper1a.html.
