What Not to Do: Behaviors That Most Faculty Members Abhor (i.e. don't like)

Pass notes in class.
Chat in class.
Pack up books and notes before class is over.
Ask, "How many cuts are allowed?"
Do homework in class.
Ask, "I missed last class, did I miss anything important?"
Near the end of class, close your books firmly and jingle your car keys to help remind your professor that time is just about up.
Attempt to make term papers look longer by adding blank pages after the front and back pages, using large font, and huge margins.
Sit in the back of class when there are empty seats in the front.
Visit a professor's office for the first time at the end of the semester, after receiving a poor mark, to as for extra credit.
Roll your eyes at the professor's lame jokes.
Be more interested in grades than learning.
Sleep in class.
Sneer when you don't agree.
Read a book in class.
Balance your checkbook in class.
After an hour-long presentation on a topic not included in the required reading, as, "Is this going to b e on the test?"
Keep your phone or pager on high volume and let it ring several times during class.
Leave at break.
Repeatedly interrupt your professor with, "but I thought you said."
Leave class early without apparent reason.
Take more than one makeup exam.
Hand in assignments late without explanation.
When the professor asks, "Are there any questions?" ask, "Is this going to be on the test?"
Miss classes repeatedly.
After coming to class late, ask the professor to go over what you missed.
Repeatedly dominate office time with personal needs and problems.
Nitpick over test questions after each exam.
During class, send e-mail with your handheld par or device.
