Arkansas State Police Internship Program 

Summary

Purpose

To provide meaningful and purposeful tasks to interested and qualified students to aid in their educational development and for the experience to benefit both the student and the Arkansas State Police in continuing its mission.  Types of positions vary from semester to semester, but sometimes include spots for majors in criminal justice, computer science, political science, public administration, psychology, social work, and others.

Length of Internship

Internships average 120-150 hours during the Spring and Fall semesters; internships are usually not available during the Summer semester.

Compensations

Internships are unpaid positions.

Students can obtain additional information from the Research and Development section of the Arkansas State Police.  The complete application package should be mailed to:

The application package should include:

1.      Resume

2.      Official Transcript from University

3.      Completed Internship Application Form ASP 218, ASP 218I (these forms may be obtained from the previous web page)

4.      Two (2) letters of recommendation

Application Processing

Copies of the application package are viewed by the Intern Manager, who arranges for a candidate interview if the applicant is qualified and there is a need for the applicant’s background. A background investigation is conducted on students recommended for interviews. The successful applicant will be assigned a State Police Supervisor who will develop the student’s full schedule with the student at the start of internship.

Nature of Assignment (generally)

Undergraduates learn about the organization, staffing, mission, activities, programs and services of the Division; also undergraduates, may be given a research project that addresses an issue of concern to the host Troop, the student, or the school.

Graduate students conduct research on issues of importance to the host Section, the Division of State Police, or the Criminal Justice System in general.
