             Dr. Roger Webb, Professor

Biography

Dr. Webb received his B.A. at Yale and his PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has a member of the UALR Psychology faculty since 1974.

Courses

Dr. Webb teaches a variety of courses from undergraduate to upper level graduate. Included in his course offerings are Introductory Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Social & Personality Development, Advance Research Methods and Psychological Testing. Additionally, Dr. Webb is in charge of the Senior Synthesis course.

Research Interests

Developmental Psychology has always been first on Dr. Webb's list of interests in the field of Psychology, particularly work in the Cognitive field involving intelligence and socialization. A long time interest for Dr. Webb has been the socialization of children and the effect that social structuring has on later cognitive development.

Although Developmental Psychology has always been Dr. Webb's primary interest, he spent many of his early years with UALR involved in Industrial Organizational Psychology projects. Many of these project revolved around personnel issues, test development and motion systems.

Current Projects

Three years ago marked the return of Dr. Webb to his first love, Developmental Psychology. Dr. Webb and his team of investigators are one part of a 10 site project funded by the Public Health Service to explore the issue of teen pregnancy. This project is designed to look at personal identity development and issues of social responsibility issues that have in the past failed to effectively address the problems facing teen mothers today. The database from this study is now available for study.

Dr. Webb is presently working on a study of factors leading to graduation of students in the psychology department.

Graduate Students

I am willing to mentor graduate students in the Industrial/Organizationl or Experimental tracks. I am also willing to supervise theses but I would need to discuss specifics further with any interested students.

I believe some students miss opportunities by not looking at evaluation research as a career field. I have done a fair amount of contract and grant research in these areas and find a thriving career field out there for individuals with masters degrees.
