Dr. Carl Hummel, Associate Professor

Biography
Dr. Hummel received his PhD in Environmental Social Psychology from
Colorado State University at Fort Collins. Hummel began teaching at UALR in
1977.
Research Interests
His research interests include the concept of "the soft classroom", the
restructuring of classroom environments to be more psychologically warm and
inviting to provide am environment more conducive to learning.
Other interests include the concept of wilderness and privacy, personal privacy
and the therapeutic benefits associated with these experiences.
A paramount concern for Dr. Hummel is the use of positive imaging in the media
to increase public awareness of problems inherent in our environment.
Courses
Courses taught by Hummel include Undergraduate and Graduate Social
Psychology, Urban Environmental Psychology, and Psychology and Human
Experience.
Current Project Involvement
Dr. Hummel is currently involved with the Donaghey Urban Studies Project.
