Current Projects
My work involves two primary areas: disability studies and
mindfulness-based health promotion.
Disability Studies: Much of my focus on disability
concerns research on internationl disability rights,
independent living, and community-based rehabilitation in
developing and transitioning contries. This work has involved
research with disability activists in post-communist Eastern
Europe and policy research on global disability issues. My
research has been facilitated through a Fulbright Senior
Fellowship, a Research Scholarship from the Woodrow Wilson
International Center, and a Mary E. Switzer Distinguished
Fellowship from the National Institute for Disability and
Rehabilitation Research of the U.S. Dept. of Education.
Mindfulness-Based Health Promotion:
My work in Mindfulness-Based Health Promotion
involves curriculum, research, and community outreach. Much of
this activity occurs within the Mindfulness-Based
Campus-Community Health Program at UALR. This work has
been supported by a 2001 Contemplative Practice Fellowship
from the American Council of Learned Societies and a Fulbright
Senior Specialist Award in 2004 that allowed me to teach some
of the curriculum in Austria.
