Escuela Internacional—Summer program in Salamanca, Spain

Programs at Escuela International are designed to improve your Spanish language skills quickly and effectively—classes are small, which allows the qualified, native teachers to remain dedicated to the principal objectives of Escuela International: “quality and personal attention for each of our students”. Our summer programs is located in Salamanca—a wonderful city which offers a wide range of scholastic, cultural and recreational opportunities. Your experience and immersion is further enhanced by living with a Spanish host-family. This provides you with first-hand experience of local customs and lifestyle, and further encourages you to use Spanish on a daily basis. More information can be found on Esquela International’s website.

Courses involve classroom instruction as well as outside activities (which facilitate the acquisition of language skills), with emphasis on conversation and culture. Completion of the month-long summer course is worth six credits of Intensive Spanish at UALR. Students may be eligible to apply for aid through the Financial Aid Office at UALR. The Office of Programs Abroad determines eligibility and admission to the program. Pre-requisites include a minimum of six semester hours of language credit, and a GPA of 2.5; the Office of Programs Abroad determines eligibility and admission to the program.

The program has been designed to provide students with the opportunity to study Spanish in a context where they will have an occasion to use it on a daily basis. In addition, the program seeks to develop students’ understanding of culture through a combination of classroom and field experiences, drawing on local resources to enhance the learning process. A further goal of the program is to increase students’ awareness of local customs and lifestyles by housing them with native host families. Students can get credit toward an undergraduate or graduate degree while studying abroad for a semester or a year. UALR’s Office of Programs Abroad can help students realize their dreams of learning and living in another country while working toward a degree.
