Programs Abroad

Welcome!

Programs abroad offer you a unique and valuable experience—the opportunity not only to study, but also to immerse yourself in another country and culture, thus expanding your view of the world. While working to fulfill major and minor coursework requirements, you also have the opportunity to acquire firsthand knowledge of another culture, develop or improve fluency in another language, hone skills critical for professional success, and gain a global perspective. The intensity of the experience will stretch you in unexpected ways, and give you increased confidence in your own capabilities. Your time abroad will provide you with vivid and amazing memories that will last a lifetime, no matter where you choose to go–we are happy to be a part of getting you there! If UALR does not offer a program that fits your needs, we will assist you in finding one that best fits your academic goals, linguistic abilities, and interests. Feel free to stop by the office for more information—we look forward to helping you expand your horizons and start your adventure!

Students to Study Mandarin in Taiwan

Allison Ivy Renfro and Cory Bates have been selected by the Taiwan-United States Sister Relations Alliance (TUSA) to receive scholarships for study in Taiwan. This summer, the students will engage in intensive Mandarin language study and immersion in the culture of Taiwan. “Each student has a Taiwanese counterpart who assists in all aspects of the program,” said Dr. Thomas Bruce, TUSA president. “Students are hosted by local civic clubs for weekend visits to interesting and important places in Taiwan. Students are also given the opportunity to volunteer in local schools and describe life and study in the United States.” TUSA scholarships for American citizens are funded through the Taiwan Ministry of Education.
