ARST 3370 Photography I
This is the basic course. Here you will learn everything you need to know in order to make a fine black and white print. We start with the fundamental technical skills and progress to the image making concepts that create the skilled photographer. The class is appropriate for both the true beginner and those with considerable experience. Photography I is a prerequisite for all the other photography classes at UALR. We offer multiple sections at convenient times during each regular semester.
ARST 3371 Photography II
This course is an overview of various forms of photographic expression, including documentary, metaphoric, and experimental approaches. Students continue to develop technical skill using black and white materials. Fine art printing and presentation skills are explored in depth. Along with Photography I, this course is recommended prior to undertaking other courses in the photography curriculum.
ARST 4370 Professional Photo Techniques
Exploration of the technical skills required for commercial, architectural, and portrait photography. Emphasis on either studio lighting or large-format view camera work will be announced in advanced. Professional equipment provided. Prerequisite: ARST 3370 and ARST 3371
ARST 4315 Advanced Problems in Design / Projects in Photography
This course runs in conjunction with the other advanced courses. This is our new open studio course, and is an advanced offering suitable for all students beyond Photography I & II. At the beginning to the semester, each student selects a project from the options offered, and the options vary each term. Therefore, there will be projects suitable for every individual from the student who is primarily interested in commercial photography, or perhaps those who seek to broaden their concept of photographic expression. Since the participants have different interests and are working at different levels of expertise, there is a lively exchange of ideas in this class.
ARST 4371 Alternative Photo Methods
Exploration of alternative methods of photographic image making. Assignments challenge each student to question traditional techniques and materials. Prerequisites: ARST 3370 and ARST 3371
ARST 4372 Digital Color Photography
An introduction to digital photography using traditional color films and digital printing techniques. Emphasis on the expressive use of color. Students use traditional cameras. Digital printing facilities are provided. Students will expand upon their knowledge of photography with the addition of color mediums. The students will also continue to expand upon their own photographic expression. Prerequisites: ARST 3370 and ARST 3371
ARST 4373 Advanced Photography
The further exploration of concepts introduced in other photography courses. Individual assignments based on each student's previous experience and interest. Course will run in conjunction of other courses being offered. Prerequisites: Permission of instructor
ARHA 4310 Special Topics: Photography Since 1950
A new offering that we hope will become a permanent part of the curriculum. Since 1950, photography in all its various forms has established a pervasive presence in the art world. This class will trace this development, both in terms of the concepts that have evolved and the image-makers that formulated them.
This course will have a required concurrent enrollment with a special section of ARST 4315. Each section will comprise 3 credit hours.
