We will have studio/performance classes once each month where you will be expected to play music that we have prepared, listen attentively to your peers, offer constructive criticism, and participate in any of the other activities that may take place during this time/ Required Materials: To be assigned, on an individual basis, by Dr. Pike. Materials may be ordered through a local music store or purchased from a catalogue music company such as Pattimusic.com Attendance: Since your progress is related to the work that you do as a result of suggestions made at each lesson, attendance is IMPERATIVE. You will be graded on your preparation and performance at each lesson, thus missing just one lesson could have negative consequences on your final grade. You will be given specific assignments (there will also be at least one written assignment) at the conclusion of each lesson. Practice: You will be expected to practice as much as necessary in order to complete each weekly assignment. It is expected that you will need to practice a minimum of 5 hours each week. Examinations & Assignments: At the final class, you will be expected to play 3 pieces (decided upon by you and Dr. Pike mid-way through the semester) for an exam grade. There will be at least one written assignment that pertains to your piano study. Grading: The breakdown of the grading follows: 30% - Final Exam Performance 60% - General preparation and performance at the weekly lesson 10% - Written Assignment Students with Disabilities: It is the policy of UALR to accommodate students with disabilities, pursuant to federal and state law. Any student with a disability who needs accommodation, for example in seating placement or in arrangements for seating, examinations, note-taking, or access to information on the web should inform the instructor at the beginning of the course.
