Dr. Sharon Young received the B.S. degree in music education Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff ; Pine Bluff , Arkansas . She received the Masters of Music degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville ; Fayetteville , Arkansas . She was awarded the Joseph E. Leader Fellowship, and a Graduate Teaching Assistantship at The Ohio State University; Columbus , Ohio . Dr. Young was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award in Music Education at The Ohio State University where she was awarded the Ph.D. Prior to her tenure at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock she was an Assistant Professor of Music at Florida State University .
Her area of research is music and diversity She has presented numerous papers at national conferences including the National Head Start Association; Seattle Washington; The National Association for Music Education 1996 conference held in Nashville TN; the 1998 conference held in Phoenix, Arizona and the 2006 conference held in Salt Lake City Utah. She has presented her research at The South Eastern Music Education Symposium held at Georgia State University ; Athens Georgia ; The National Association for the Study and Performance of African American Music's 2005 Conference in Chicago Illinois , its 2007 conference held at Jackson State University , Jackson Mississippi. As the conductor of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Gospel Chorale her ensembles have been invited to perform for regional and national venues. |
