UALR Opera Theatre offers training and performance opportunities in musical theater, in two separate
courses:
Opera Workshop – a skill-based class in which students study stage movement, acting for opera, stage
combat, audition techniques, scene study, improvisation and much more. This class is open to all voice
students without audition or prerequisite.
Opera Performance – a chance for students to perform one of the great works of the lyric stage. There
are two productions a year, in the fall and the spring. Students are cast through an open audition process in
the semester preceding the production. During the 2007-8 academic year UALR Opera Theatre will be
presenting
Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea with orchestra (November 9 & 11, 2007)
Johann Strauss, Jr's Die Fledermaus (The Bat) with orchestra
(May 2 & 4, 2008)
