UALR Community Orchestra
If you've been playing a string, wind or brass instrument for just family and friends, or simply for your own enjoyment, you may want to consider going public - with the UALR Community Orchestra. Musicians young and old, students or non-students, are invited to attend and play.
Through a partnership with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, the UALR Community Orchestra rehearses in the Arkansas Symphony's rehearsal hall, 2417 North Tyler (Byrne Hall on the St. John's campus), Thursday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m. UALR Department of Music Chair Dr. Victor Ellsworth leads the community musicians. This is not a competitive situation, and everyone who shows up will get a chair.
Students can enroll and receive credit for their participation with the community orchestra. Others who want to join the orchestra need to enroll through the UALR Off-Campus Programs office, (501) 569-3117, for $75 per semester. The orchestra will select its literature from the classics to pop and jazz.
For more information about the UALR Community Orchestra, contact Dr. Victor Ellsworth, Department of Music chair, at (501) 569-3294 or e-mail evellsworth@ualr.edu.

Wind Ensemble
The UALR Wind Ensemble, conducted by Michael Underwood, is a new ensemble created in the fall of 2006. It is made up of music and non-music majors, faculty, and musicians from the community. Its mission is to educate our students while learning and performing the great classic literature for winds as well as transcriptions of the masters. This past December, the UALR Wind Ensemble stayed true to this mission by performing works by Fillmore, Persichetti, Borodin, and a brand new work by UALR's Jeff Higgins in its premiere performance. This semester promises to be much more exciting as we continue to grow.
