Math & Statistics Technology Rooms

Math Lab

Math and Statistic Technology Rooms

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics' technology room is DKSN 603. It is equipped with state-of-the-art computers, color and black and white printers, a TV and a VCR. We have a variety of software on each machine including Maple VIII, Scientific WorkPlace, Microsoft Office 97, LaTex, Tex, Mathcad 2000 Professional and C++. These software packages are used to enhance some of the courses offered in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. In addition to the software we have electronic data acquisition equipment available to the students. We use data to enhance our applied mathematics and statistics courses.

Policies

The Mathematics and Statistics Technology Rooms are not open labs. The use of these rooms is reserved for students who are taking course from the Mathematics and Statistics Department that employ technology. In order to protect the computers and keep the lab in optimal condition we have established the following policies for the Lab. These rules are intended to make sure students can work at any given computer without needless worry over appearence or performance of the machine.

NO FOOD OR DRINKS ARE ALLOWED IN THE LAB! Please close all applications when you are done. Do not attempt to load or delete programs from these machines. No game playing allowed. Please put all chairs under the desks and clean up around your workstation when you are finished.

Services and Resources for students.

The Math Lab offers may services to undergraduate students. Students can get one-on-one tutoring for all undergraduate courses. Students may also get help on the use of TI calculators from the lab staff. There are also many computers in the Math Lab. There is a NO fee assessed to use the lab. Our tutors are capable of helping with developmental math through Calculus 2. The Math Lab has also a video library of mathematical lectures available for students. Some of these videos were furnished by publishers to accompany their respective books. Other videos were produced on the UALR campus by the Math Lab.

Math Lab Video Library

Student registered with the Math Lab may view the UALR Math Deptartment's tapes in the Math Lab. They may also check out these videos on a nightly basis with a one time $10 deposit which is refundable at the end of the semester, or videos may be checked out by the students with a $10 deposit which is refundable upon return on the tape. All students, regardless if they are enrolled in the mathlab or not, may check out the TI 82, 83 Graphing calculator tutorial videotape for free. ($10 refundable deposit upon return of the videotape).
