The National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers

Welcome

The Mid-America Regional Interpreter Education Center (MARIE) is a collaborative effort between the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and the University of Northern Colorado in Denver. Funded by a grant from the U. S. Department of Education, Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) for 2005 - 2010, the MARIE Center serves as an interpreter educational center for eleven states: Arkansas, Colorado, Louisiana, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

This new center is part of an innovative and coordinated national effort to improve interpreting skills and to provide training opportunities to interpreters across the U.S. The MARIE Center is one of six regional/national centers that form the National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers (NCIEC). The NCIEC is dedicated to building and supporting effective interpreting practices through the provision of quality undergraduate education and professional development opportunities for interpreters of all abilities.

The consortium is working diligently to establish a foundation where interpreters will have easier access to information, materials and training for professional development. Although, some processes and procedures from previous grant cycles have changed, this first grant year has seen much work towards laying the groundwork that will result in new ideas, strategies, and training in the coming years.

Join us as we look towards the future in improving and expanding training opportunities for interpreters and interpreter educators across the country. Please use the links to the left for more information regarding the MARIE Center and other centers' activities.
