MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in psychology,
 sociology, or a related field; plus three years’ experience in rehabilitation
 counseling or a related field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 Basic computer skills required; prefer experience in technology and resources for blind persons

JOB DUTIES:
 Regular in-state travel to visit clients in their home. Occasional overnight in state or out of state travel is required for training and other assignments.

 CLASS SUMMARY

The Rehabilitation Counselor III works under supervision and is responsible  for developing and administering individualized written rehabilitation programs and providing counseling and referral services for eligible individuals. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency
policy.

 EXAMPLES OF WORK

 1. Interviews clients to determine eligibility, independent living or
 vocational goals, and services needed.

 2. Arranges and/or may administer and evaluate tests and examinations.

 3. Analyzes information and develops individualized rehabilitation program
 for client and explains available services.

 4. Coordinates services with other agencies to implement rehabilitation
 program.

 5. Evaluates and documents clients’ progress and modifies rehabilitation
 program as needed.

 6. Provides individual and group therapeutic and supportive counseling.

 7. Orients and trains lower-level counselors.

 8. Presents information relative to rehabilitation programs and services to
 educational institutions and public and private organizations.

 9. May develop employment opportunities and provide placement services.

10. Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.

 WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
 The Rehabilitation Counselor III has regular contact with state and federal agencies, private rehabilitation organizations, and colleges.

 SPECIAL JOB DIMENSIONS
 Frequent in-state travel is required.

KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
 Knowledge of principles and practices of counseling, rehabilitation, and case
 management.
 Knowledge of agency and community services and programs.
 Ability to interview, obtain, and provide oral and written technical
 information.
 Ability to provide guidance, support, and therapeutic counseling to clients.
 Ability to develop individualized rehabilitation plans.
 Ability to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs
 and services and clients status in programs.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in psychology,
 sociology, or a related field; plus three years’ experience in rehabilitation
 counseling or a related field.

 Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or
 part of these basic requirements upon approval of the Qualifications Review
 Committee.
