UALR Rehab Counseling grad nominated for national award

Rehabilitation Counselor and UALR student Raul Rodriguez has been chosen to receive the 2007 NISH Professional Excellence in Rehabilitation Award. The award is given to outstanding individuals working in partnership with a non-profit agency as part of AbilityOne, a federal program dedicated to providing employment for the blind or severly disabled. NISH, or the National Industries for the Severely Handicapped, is one of two agencies designated by AbilityOne to fulfill this purpose. Raul will be accepting his award at the 2008 NISH National Training and Achievement Conference on April 14th in Los Angeles, CA.
His current involvement with NISH allows his clients the opportunity to work for the Border Patrol at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in his hometown of Artesia, NM. Raul says of his job, “It is great to have seen the 35 or so individuals that I assisted go through such a wonderful and positive transition as displayed by their newfound pride and happiness by working at such an important place.”
Raul will be graduating from UALR with his MA in Rehabilitation Counseling at the end of the spring 2008 semester.
