Concerts Approved for Music Papers

I encourage you to attend many different kinds of musical performances, to enjoy the listening experiences. But the ones on this list are best suited to the music paper requirement in our course, due to the textbook tie-ins, repertoire, and program notes available to you at the events. You are expected to attend two concerts from these lists, one for each of your music papers for this course.

When you attend a concert in order to do a music paper, make sure to bring a copy of the Concert Observation Form along to guide your note-taking. Fill out as much as you can on the form before you arrive at the concert. You will get more out of the listening experience that way.

Please note the dates of the concerts. You must plan ahead which concerts you are going to attend. The last music paper for the course is due on Nov. 20. Notice, the last approved concert on this list is scheduled in early November, well before Thanksgiving. (Do not wait until the weekend before a paper is due to try to find a concert to attend. That is not a successful strategy for completing the assignment.)

You are welcome to attend concerts with family and friends. Please be aware that children under the age of 6 years are not admitted to Arkansas Symphony events (because they aren't comfortable sitting still, quietly, for long periods). Also, snacks or drinks are not permitted in the concert halls (unlike a movie theater).

SBSCH = Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, in the UA Little Rock Fine Arts Building. Balcony seating has the best acoustics.
