SPSS
Statistical Package for the Social Sciences

In each week's instruction, there will be a SPSS lesson that applies the weekly lesson to using SPSS. Make sure that you understand the content of the weekly instruction before reading the SPSS lesson.

From this page you will access all of the programs and data sets that are to be used this semester in SPSS.  Make sure that you have already read the SPSS Introduction.

Directions

All of the SPSS programs that relate to the lessons that you will use in this course have already been written. You will be required to learn how to create a SPSS program and you will be expected to know how to interpret certain types of SPSS output (as related to the weekly instruction). The table below lists the SPSS lessons that accompany each set of weekly instruction. The topic column identifies the subject of the lesson. The data set column contains a link to the data set that will need to be opened. The output column provides a summary of the output from SPSS that has been modified so as to present the relevant pieces that are generated in that window. Some of the SPSS output is quite lengthy and you will not want to print it all. A condensed (more printer friendly) version of the output can be obtained from the link in the output column.

You will need to download the data sets to your computer To download the data files listed in the table, follow these steps.

Using a Personal Computer: Using a Macintosh*
  • Right-click on the link.
  • In the window that opens, select Save Target As.
  • Save to your A-drive (disk drive) or wherever you want to read the data from.
  • Place the mouse pointer over the link.
  • Hold the mouse-button down.
  • Save to your desktop.

*Although there are instructions for downloading the files using a Macintosh, the version of SPSS that is provided for your use can only be run on Windows.
