Constitution of the Indian Students Association at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Article I. Name The name of this society shall be the Indian Students Association at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, to be called ISA from here forward in this and other documents of ISA. Article II. Objectives The objectives of ISA shall be to maximize the potential of the organization through its vast membership, to increase the awareness of Indians on campus and in the community, to preserve the rich cultural heritage of India, and to unite people of all races by celebrating and learning from diversity. Article III. Membership Members of ISA shall be both undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the University of Arkansas at Little Rock who are interested in Indian activities and events and who are in good standing. Membership requirements will be to attend a minimum of three meetings each semester. Attendance will be taken at each general meeting. Article IV. Meetings Section 1. General meetings will be held bimonthly throughout each semester. Additional or less frequent meetings must be authorized by a decision of the Officers. Regular meetings are open to anyone who wishes to attend. They will consist of ISA affairs and will be conducted by the President, and a speaker or a program, as arranged by the Meetings Committee. Article V. Terms, Eligibility, and Election of Officers The Officers of this organization shall adhere to all University requirements for eligibility to hold office, and will be responsible for seeing that the organization follows all University regulations. The Election of any Executive Committee Officer shall be by a general membership vote. Section 1. The election of the Executive Committee shall occur once a regular semester, in the beginning of each semester. Elections for the Executive Officers will be conducted in the following order: President Vice President Treasurer Secretary Other Representative Article VI. Duties and Responsibilities of the Officers All Officers shall be responsible in the planning and organization of all ISA related activities and events. Section 1. The President shall: Preside at all Executive Committee, Officer, and General Meetings. Insure attendance at all Student Senate, Student Government, and all other relevant organizations' activities and meetings. Shall make it his duty to vote against those decisions he feels that do not represent the best interests of the organization. In the event that he is outvoted, he shall postpone any further action on the matter until a general meeting ca n be held to vote on the matter. Shall be responsible for all ISA funds. Section 2. The Vice President shall: Assist the President and assume all the duties of the President in his/her absence. Be responsible for arranging speakers or programs, as seen fit by the Executive Committee, or all ISA General Meetings and rooms for all meetings. Sending out all appropriate e-mails to ISA list serve. Section 3. The Treasurer shall: Take charge of all funds belonging to ISA. Insure compliance with all student government regulations, bylaws, and handbooks. Be responsible for proper disbursement of all ISA funds. Render a proper accounting at each Executive Committee meeting. Section 4. The Secretary shall: Arrange a membership drive at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. Keep up to date on student senate and keep in contact with senators on issues that affect ISA. Be responsible for overseeing a newsletter each semester. Keep minutes at all Executive Committee and Officer Meetings. Prepare an agenda for all General Meetings. Article VII. Amendments An amendment to this Constitution shall be made by simple majority in the presence of the Executive committee. |
