Assistant Professor of Piano/Group piano (Position # R99414). Full- time, tenure-track, beginning August 15, 2010. Responsibilities: Teach studio and class piano; supervise group piano program and community engagement activities; develop/maintain significant reputation in piano through teaching, research/creative activity and professional service; and actively recruit students to the music program. Service on appropriate departmental, college and university committees expected, including involvement with curriculum development, recruitment and retention initiatives, and advising in the music major. Other responsibilities possible according to candidate interest and departmental need.
Required: an earned Doctorate in Music with specialization in piano; minimum of two years teaching experience in piano and group piano at the college level; demonstrated administrative experience in a group piano program; demonstrated excellence in group piano teaching; evidence of excellence as a pianist; evidence of significant involvement in professional music organizations.
The candidate is expected to be familiar with music technology relevant to group piano, as well as skilled with MS Office technology for academic work in and out of the classroom. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills essential.
MUSIC DEPARTMENT: The department is a member of NASM and offers a BA major in music with emphases in music performance studies, theory and music history, and performance studies leading to vocal secondary education licensure. The Music Department is housed on the 150-acre campus, located minutes from downtown Little Rock in central Arkansas. It occupies a facility that includes a 300-seat Recital Hall, two large rehearsal halls, practice rooms, classrooms, and faculty studios and offices. A state-of-the-art music technology studio/classroom is located in the center of the campus and includes a recording studio that is available for students and faculty.
