Research Associate/Post-doctoral Fellow -GIT
Job Number: 624
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock seeks applicants to fill the position of Research Associate/Post-doctoral Fellow to work with Dr. Hong Li Wang in the areas of Molecular Biology/Gene Regulation, Metabolism, Biochemical Structure/Synthesis, Cellular/Structural Biology, Functional Genomics, Microscopy Skills, and Bioinformatics (req# 624), to start as soon as possible. This full-time, non-tenure track, 12-month appointment will carry a competitive salary and excellent benefits. The position is funded by an NSF EPSCoR grant. The research is focused on identification of novel phenolic compounds and co-up-regulated biosynthetic genes and transport proteins using combined accurate developmental metabolomic and genomics analyses of the macrosclereid cells in the developing seeds of Medicago truncatula. Combined with bioinformatics and systems biology-based analysis, the aims of this project are: (1) to identify novel derivatives of major flavonoids and isoflavonoids and related potential biosynthesis genes and gene network(s), and (2) to understand how flavonoids and isoflavonoids are transported, accumulated and stored from the cytoplasm into the vacuoles in the macrosclereid cells.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology, or closely related field before employment commences. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in plant secondary metabolism, phytochemical identification using HPLC, LC-MC analysis of gene expression profiles, gene functional analysis using in situ hybridization or direct visualization of sub-cellular location by fluorescent proteins, knock out gene expression using gene silencing and/or mutation. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to receive multidisciplinary training, and be involved in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. We especially welcome the candidate who is self-motivated, creative, and displays excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
