Welcome!

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Sport Management Graduate Program within the Department of Health Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock – the only program of its kind in the State of Arkansas! These are truly exciting times for our program and we are honored that you are considering pursuing your graduate studies with us.

You are considering a career in Sport Management at a time of unprecedented growth and development of the sport-industry world-wide. This growth and development has created opportunities for management professionals in a wide variety of sport settings. Sport management professionals work in athletic organizations, event management, sport facility management, recreation programs, sports information/public relations, sports media, sports retail and sports marketing, to name a few.

The Master's Program in Sport Management offers a cross discipline curriculum designed to address the unique position of sports in American business and to provide professional preparation for management and leadership positions for careers in the sport industry. Once admitted, students will complete a 36 credit-hour degree program that includes courses in management, marketing, legal issues, and finance. At the culmination of the coursework requirements, students may opt to complete a thesis or pursue an internship with a sport organization.

Students with the following characteristics will find themselves well-suited for the field of sport management: enjoy working with people; possess a passion for sports, health, and wellness; athletes with an interest in learning about the business side of their sport; leaders who value the same teamwork that unites athletes on the playing field.

We hope that you will visit the Sport Management website and check for updates on our program, our students, and our accomplishments. Please stop by my office in Donaghey Student Center (DSC) 110F, e-mail me at drsweeney@ualr.edu, or call me at 501-683-7575. I look forward to meeting you.
