Both my parents were in the United States Navy. My Mother was a nurse and my Father was a chaplain. They met during WWII in Sun Valley, ID at the lodge, which the Navy converted into a hospital. They met in a pool hall, and it was 'love at first sight'. Several years ago, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and took a 'second honeymoon' back to Sun Valley. And although they both had difficulty walking, they had a great time. They sent postcards back, "...this is where it all began..." Going back was hard for them-both physically and seeing the changes.
You see, my parents come from totally different backgrounds. Dad from the East (New York) and Mom from the West (Arizona). That's the unique thing about the military, and love...the great mixers.
This is where my parents and brother Walter are resting: Pine Crest. It is quiet and peaceful there. All of the markers are bronze, they don't have headstones. I don't have pictures of Dad's funeral but dohave some from Mom's. The casket drape was all white flowers(Travis made it) I went to gather flowers from the arrangemtents and it was so quite, except for the breeze...
Someone said they believe Walter's coming back, to get a second chance to make a positive difference.
There are four of us 'chillins'...I'm the oldest, then Walter and David and the youngest, Mark. I belive our parents loved us, thought we were special, cute, whatever. But then we grew up, did things they didn't understand. A lot of family dysfunction is the result of lies and manipulation, and unfortunately, drug use. Great expectations are often replaced by disillusionment, especially for my Father. So, before this becomes the 'spiraling abyss', we did have a decent up-bringing. We moved 18 times in 12 years and when we finally came 'to lite' here in AR in 1962, I learned a new word: 'damnyankee'. Arkansas has indeed been an education, toadlly different from life on a naval station.
We lived in East Syracuse when I was very young, near the round house. Next stop....
That's all for now...check back later....and thanks for stopping by!
