Donaghey Scholars Program Sampler (Fall)

Every fall semester, coordinated with the date of the Arkansas Teachers meetings, the Donaghey Scholars Program invites students interested in the Program to visit with us for a day.  The event is held from 9:00 a.m. --  2:00 p.m.

Prospective applicants attend classes with our First Year Scholars to sample what it is like to be a Donaghey Scholar.  Students are encouraged to participate in the classes and visit with our faculty, staff, and students, both in the classroom and in the Scholars lounge in Dickinson Hall.

Tours of the campus are arranged for interested students at the end of the last class.

If you would like to be part of this event, please e-mail us or call at 501-569-3389. It is not required that you make a reservation, but we would love to save you a seat.

Donaghey Scholars Program Holiday Party (Winter)

Every December, students, faculty, staff, and administrators gather for a holiday party.  Since the Program often has fall graduates, we take this time to honor those graduating students and ask them to say a few words about what the Scholars Program has meant to them in their undergraduate experience.

Staff and students provide hearty refreshments, and international students sometimes prepare dishes native to their country.

Donaghey Scholars Program Banquet (Spring)

Every spring, the Donaghey Scholars Program sponsors a banquet for our graduating Scholars.  This event honors the students who have completed all of the requirements of the Scholars Program and who are graduating from UALR.

Graduating Scholars vote on the faculty member of their choice to speak at the banquet and parents and significant others are invited to attend.  Each Scholar is asked to “sing for his/her supper,” in order for the audience to hear what the Scholars Program has meant to each of the graduating Scholars.

The event is one of the highlights of the academic year for Scholars.

Donaghey Scholars Program Orientation for Incoming Scholars (Summer)

Each summer, students entering their first year in the Donaghey Scholars Program in the fall come together for a brief orientation, usually during a morning or afternoon in July.

At the orientation, First Year Scholars get to meet each other and some of the faculty who teach in the Program.   Those attending the orientation participate in a discussion of a book or essay which was distributed to them prior to the orientation, and they are given the opportunity to meet with the Director, if they have not already done so, for advising.
