Physics 2121:
Physics for Scientists and Engineers I Laboratory
The textbook for Physics 2321 is: Fishbane,
P.M., Gasiorowicz, S., and S.T. Thornton, Physics for Scientists and
Engineers, 2d ed., Upper Saddle River, New Jersey: Prentice Hall, 1996.
Please
note that this book is the extended edition. The chapter numbers below
refer to this textbook.
Students
will be encouraged to use MATLAB computer
programs for problem solving.
Physics experiments are in conducted in the
Open Laboratory.
A suggested sequence for completing the laboratory experiments is given
below:

Thursday 7:25 pm - 9:15 pm
Would you please note the following:
-
All physics laboratory courses meet in Physics 202.
-
Monday, January 10, 2000, is the first day the Laboratory is open.
-
Thursday, April 20, 2000, is the last day the Laboratory is open.
-
When an experiment has not been finished and is incomplete, the results
sheets must be given to the lab instructor and they will be filed in the
"Incomplete File."
-
The results sheets should not be removed from the Laboratory.
-
Only three experiments may be completed the last week that the Laboratory
is open for the semester.
-
The results sheets for two experiments may be turned in the last day that
the Laboratory is open. This the maximum number of reports which you may
submit that day.
-
The grade for this course is based on the completion of twelve (12) experiments.
-
Incompletes are not given in physics laboratory courses.
-
It is recommended that you have a partner to conduct each experiment. Two
people maximum may work at one station in the Laboratory.
For students with disabilities who are not
able to perform the scheduled laboratory experiments, alternate projects
may be available. Consult with the Chairperson of the Department
of Physics and Astronomy and the Office
of Disability Support Services for clarification regarding circumstances
and situations when these projects would be an appropriate alternative.
Disability Support Services: It is the
policy of UALR to accommodate students with disabilities, pursuant to federal,
state law, and the University’s commitment to equal education opportunities.
Any student with a disability who needs accommodation, for example in seating
placement or in arrangements for examinations, should inform the instructor
at the beginning of the course. The chair of the department offering this
course is also available to assist with accommodations. Students with disabilities
are also encouraged to contact the Office of Disability Support Services,
which is located in the Donaghey Student Union, Room 103, UALR telephone
569-3143.
