Dial-Up Access
UALR Dial-up Phone Number: (1-501) 515-6150
Faculty and staff may use the UALR dial-up server for off-campus access. You will need a computer with a working modem installed, an active phone line connected, and a dial-up connection setup on your operating system.
Follow the instructions below to set up a dial-up connection for Windows XP. You will need your email account username and password.
- Go to Network Connections on the Control Panel by clicking on Start then Settings and double-clicking Network Connections.
- On the left navigation bar under Network Tasks click Create a new connection. A window will appear titled New Connection Wizard.
- Click Next to advance to the first setup screen titled Network Connection Type.
- Make sure the Connect to the Internet option is chosen and click Next to advance to Getting Ready.
- Choose Set up my connection manually and click Next.
- On the Internet Connection screen, make sure the Connect using dial-up modem option is chosen and click Next.
- On the Connection Name screen type the name of this connection (ie. “UALR Dial-up) and click Next for the Phone Number to Dial screen.
- Enter the dial-up phone number as 515-6150 (if out of area code, enter 1-501- before the number and click Next.
- On the Connection Availability screen, you have the option of choosing who may use the dial-up connection. Choose an option and click Next.
- On the Internet Account Information screen, enter the following information:
User name: (Everything before @ in your E-Mail address, e.g. jfkennedy)
Password: (Your current UALR E-Mail password)
Confirm Password: (Rewrite E-Mail password)Choose whether or not you want this account information used by anyone who uses the connection and if this connection is the default Internet connection. Click Next.
- The next screen shows a summary of the options you have chosen as well as an option to place a shortcut to the desktop. Once you are satisfied with the options chosen, click Next
- You have now completed setting up your computer for UALR dial-up access to the Internet. Click Dial on the Dial-up Connection window to begin using dial-up.
