Visual Arts

The UALR Community School of the Arts is pleased to continue classes in the Visual Arts. The school will provide materials needed for its children's classes by charging a fee based on the specific project needs of the course for the semester; or, students can obtain a basic supply list and purchase their own supplies.  All students are encouraged to wear clothes that will not inhibit the creative process:  old clothes, smocks, aprons and coveralls are highly desirable.

Saturdays: 10:00-10:40 level I
                    11:00-11:40 level II

KinderArt is designed as a beginning art course for the very young. Limited to no more than six children per class, KinderArt provides the child with developmentally correct experiences with visual art materials and techniques. Children have the opportunity to develop eye-hand coordination, social interaction, language skills, and symbolic thinking. In addition, children will learn basic color theory through color mixture, shape and hue recognition, and will experiment with many safe, nontoxic materials while exploring a variety of 2-D and 3-D techniques. Because this is an experience that does not place an emphasis on an art "product," but rather on growth through the process/experience, parents should not expect finished "art works" from their child.*

*This classroom experience does not include the participation of a parent or caregiver. Studies show that children, in this art form, work far more spontaneously, independently and creatively doing the exercises themselves, under the supervision of an instructor. Parents' visitation day will be scheduled at the semester's end.

Tuition includes the cost of all materials.
