Course Description

Co-requisites:  SCED 7103-supervised clinical teaching and SCED 7306 Instructional Skills and Classroom Management.  This Instructional Methods course is created to prepare you to structure and interpret the concepts, ideas and relationships in science that are needed to advance student learning by becoming an effective teacher of secondary science.   This is an instructional methods course with an emphasis upon the basic planning and instructional abilities for secondary instruction.  General content shall include all the science disciplines and education issues along with a variety of teaching strategies and learning resources.   Science content based on the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) standards (http://www.nap.edu/html/nses/html/) and Arkansas Curriculum Frameworks (http://arkedu.state.ar.us/curriculum/frameworks.html) shall be the foundation to develop pedagogical techniques and activities that encourage and promote gains in science and mathematics learning.   This course includes the integration of technology as a tool to develop problem-based lessons and materials based on the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards (http://www.iste.org/).
