Service-Learning
Learning is not limited to the classroom. Community settings give students the opportunity to develop valuable skills that enhance their professional and personal lives. Academic experience that integrate service into the curriculum also increase civic engagement by students while in college and after.

Service-learning is one tool utilized by faculty to create learning experiences that include service. Service-learning is “a teaching and learning approach that integrates community service with academic study to enrich learning, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities,” according to the National Commission on Service-Learning. The Office of Community Engagement supports faculty in developing service-learning courses by offering training opportunities on the teaching method and connecting them with national organizations that support service-learning.
