To contact faculty experts, call the UALR Office of Communications at (501) 569-3194. Office of Communications staff members are available from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday, to assist in reaching experts or to suggest alternatives. Facts about UALR

Mission: The mission of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is to develop the intellect of students; to discover and disseminate knowledge; to serve and strengthen society by enhancing awareness in scientific, technical, and cultural arenas; and to promote human sensitivities and understanding of interdependence.

As Arkansas’ premier metropolitan university, UALR is committed to responding to the needs of the community by creating active links between the campus, community, and commerce. As a metropolitan university, UALR serves a different kind of student- about half are balancing families, careers, and school. As a metropolitan university, UALR is also able to put its students in close contact with the state’s most influential leaders in government, business, industry, medicine, and information technology.

The University: Public, metropolitan university of more than 11,000 full- and part-time students in nine colleges and schools. More than 100 majors. Student-to-faculty ratio: 14 to 1. Average class size: 16 students. Part of the University of Arkansas System since 1969.
Students: In addition to students from within Arkansas, the UALR student body includes students from 44 states, 62 foreign countries, and Canada. Twenty-four percent are African American. Just as important as geographic diversity is the diversity of age and experience: UALR students include recent high school graduates, adults beginning or returning to college, and professionals adding to their education.

Location: Little Rock, Arkansas, the state capital and business center, close to internship, employment, cultural, and recreational opportunities such as sporting events at ALLTEL Arena; the excellent hiking, fishing, biking, and other outdoor available close to Little Rock; and the River Market, with its restaurants, museums, shops, loft apartments, and farmers’ market. The River Market offers exciting nightlife options including live bands, Arkansas Twisters arena football, and concerts in the Riverfest Amphitheatre, central Arkansas’ premier outdoor concert venue.

Campus: 150 acres located in urban Little Rock. Forty buildings, many of them state-of-the-art. The library contains 400,000 volumes, 700,000 microform items, 8,300 audiovisual forms and CDs, and subscribes to 2,625 periodicals. Computerized library services include card catalog, interlibrary loan, and database searching. Special learning facilities include a learning resource center, art galleries, radio station, television station, Cyber Café, a wireless network that is being expanded to the rest of the campus, and speech and hearing clinic.

Finding UALR

Driving directions:

From I-430 (west or east) – Take the University Avenue exit and proceed south until reaching the intersection of University Ave. and 28th Street. Turn left at the stoplight at 28th Street. Proceed .25 miles and turn right on Campus Drive West. Proceed south on Campus Drive, following the directional signs towards University Services. The University Services Building, on the northeast corner of Campus Drive and University Drive, is a one-story brick building, and the Office of Communications is accessed through the first entrance (covered with maroon awning).
