The Discussion
section is the body of the memorandum. The writer has two goals in this
section: to report the governing law and to apply the law to the problem.
The first paragraph of this Discussion section sets out the general rule
for armed robbery (note the citation to an Arizona statute), but also alerts
the reader that the armed robbery statute has been addressed and interpreted
by the courts of that state. Thus, not only the statute, but case law interpreting
the statute, will be important to the analysis.
